The island of San Sebastian, with its historic fortifications and
a lighthouse, is connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway.

Cadiz's "Cathedral of the Holy Cross over the Waters" began
with a gothic Cathedral dating back to 1263. Construction of
the current "new Cathedral" began in 1722 with work continuing
until 1838. As a result of the extended period of construction
the cathedral mixes Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical styles.

Near the cathedral are these partially excavated ruins of the massive
theatre of the Roman settlement of Gades that held 20,000 spectators.
