Malaga

The Alcazaba (al-Qasba = urban fortress), is located on the slopes of
Mount Gibralfaro, next to the bay where the city of Málaga is situated. Its
strategic position led to its occupation by the Phoenicians, who settled on
the mountain around 600 BC. The Romans settled in the surrounding area, on
the southern slope, where the remains of a Roman villa and industrial facilities
for fish salting have been found, and on the western slope of Mount Gibralfaro,
where they built a theater in the 1st century AD. During the Islamic period, the
Alcazaba served as a fortification, palace-fortress and seat of city government.
